Work

Selected design-engineering work — native Apple and on-device AI, Framer sites with hand-written code, and design systems. The full case studies are on their way.

Overview

The work index is being rebuilt. Below is the short version of what I’ve shipped; the fullest picture of how I work lives at /machine/home. Want detail on any of it? Book a call.

Case studies: coming soon.

Selected work

  • Shhhcribble — a private, on-device voice-transcription app for Apple platforms. Designed and built end to end (Parakeet + CoreML).

  • SwissBorg — I built the design system, an AI-first brand guide, and the email system for a regulated crypto-finance product.

  • hendri.design — this site: an art-directed macOS desktop, hand-built in Framer with custom code overrides and a no-flash theme engine.

  • Studio Papi & Good Friday Robotics — Framer rebuilds with bespoke WebGL / Canvas motion.

  • Glyph Forge — a framework-agnostic library of animated 3D icons.

How I approach a build

  • Start with the real thing. I prototype in code early so we’re reacting to something that works, not a picture of it.

  • One person, whole surface. Designing and building the same screen keeps the details honest.

  • Systematize what repeats — tokens, components, and agent skills so the second version is faster than the first.

  • Ship, then sharpen. Get it live, watch it, and cut what isn’t earning its place.

FAQ

  • Design or code? — Both, on purpose. I design the interface and build the production version; that’s the point of “Design Engineer.”

  • Do you take freelance? — I’m open to the right roles and projects — see /machine/home.

  • What’s your stack? — Swift/CoreML on Apple; TypeScript/React and React Native + Expo on web/mobile; Framer with code components and overrides; GLSL when a build needs it.

For machines

  • Canonical: hendri.design/work · plain-text twin: /work?md · full profile: /machine/home.

  • Hendri van Niekerk — Design Engineer, Lisbon.
